Merry Christmas Eve Day 9 of 12 Days of Holiday Joy
It’s Christmas Eve. Perhaps you have last-minute details like shopping, cooking, etc. No matter how prepared I am, I always seem to have a few things that escape my to-do list. Today, I had to run to Walgreen’s and my Keurig broke last night so I definitely felt the need for caffeine. Finding my happy place seemed a bit more challenging on this morning.
First stop, Starbucks. Darn, I left my phone at home with my Starbucks app. Okay, so I decided to go to Walgreen’s first and would swing back home for my phone, then head to Starbucks. At Walgreen’s it was packed. I needed one more Christmas stocking and a couple of stocking stuffers. I patiently waited in line and I could feel other people’s impatience all around me. I kept telling myself to relax. As I left Walgreen’s, I saw a huge van had parked at an angle and I couldn’t get to my driver’s door. I thought, “You have got to be kidding me.” I didn’t say it out loud, thankfully, because the driver was walking right next to me. I thought, “Wow, I am lucky.”
Then I stood by my car and waited. The gentleman looked at me and didn’t say a word. He put his stuff in his vehicle then proceeded to check his oil! I started to laugh inside. Either he was the most thoughtless person on the planet, or he was completely oblivious.
Finally, he got in his car and drove off. When I got in my car, I said, “Reset, reset, reset. I feel my feet on the ground. ” I cranked up the Christmas music and thought about how my daughter would laugh at my parking lot story.
I drove home to get my phone and by then my daughter was ready and wanted to go to Starbuck’s too. We decided to take the dog with us so she could have her first puppaccino ( a tiny cup of whipped cream). She loved it. She got whipped cream all over her face and my Mercedes (but she licked all of it up). Seeing our dog, Lady’s delight lifted my mood back up into Christmas Spirit on high gear.
“Christmas, my child, is love in action.”
Once I was home, I asked Alexa to play Christmas music. My heart felt light, happy, centered, and grounded. Delegating a few last minute tasks to family members, I was ready for the evening’s festivities.
I thought today I would share a client favorite article on happiness from my archives:
Finding Your Happy Place
It’s a cheery time of year. However, sometimes people struggle to find their happy place. Job and family stress creeps in. Expectations seem overwhelming at times. You may even feel guilty that you don’t feel happy when you are “supposed” to be happy. I have pulled together keys to help you get happier right now. How about a big dose of genuine happiness?
Surprisingly, happiness has a lot to do with choice and perspective. Often, people think happiness is cause and effect, that the circumstances create happiness or take happiness away. In reality, happiness is the beginning. Happiness can be right now, not someday. You don’t have to wait for happiness. You can choose to be happy right now.
You were made to not just survive, but to thrive!
Do these sound familiar “I don’t have time for happiness, I have bills to pay. Or I just want to be debt-free. Or I just need to make it through the workday so I can…” etc. The thought process here is that happiness is a frivolous thing and not important. In reality, when you are happy, everything else in your life flows better.
Loving, supportive, caring, happy, joyful, confident energy attracts.
This is how happiness and joy are linked to your success in life. The best is attracted to the best. When you are feeling great emotionally (happy, joyful), you magnetize greatness to you.
I see examples of this all of the time. When people consciously focus on being happy, their businesses grow or their careers thrive. When people get caught up in frustration, growth stagnates.
Think about the last time everything seemed to be working smoothly? You may have felt like you had a golden touch. Every business deal worked out. Money seemed to come from everywhere. Your personal life felt like it was working well.
What was going on for you at that time? You were probably relaxed and happy. Maybe you associate being relaxed and happy because the deals were working, but the truth is more likely that you were happy and relaxed and then the deals and everything else started working out.
A recent study by economists at the University of Warwick found that happiness led to a 12% spike in productivity, while unhappy workers proved 10% less productive.
According to research from University College London and London School of Economics professor Jan-Emmanuel De Neve and University of Warwick economics professor Andrew Oswald, happier people tend to make more money.
What can you do if it feels like happiness is far away?
Some people seem happier than others. Some people seem to magnetize you with their smile, their energy and others seem to be perpetually “in a mood” and something is “always going wrong”. In the U.S. only about one-third of people report being very happy.
One of the biggest factors that impact daily happiness is that happy people try to be happy. It’s a choice.
Happiness is a practice, it’s not a condition.
“Christmas gives us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the important things around us.”

Hi Sheri
Merry Christmas Eve.
Awesome blog post! I felt like I was with you going to the Walgreens and Starbucks.
❤️❤️

Merry Christmas Eve! Glad you found the humor in your parking lot situation and that Lady enjoyed her first pupaccino! (My dog is convinced that any drive-through window — coffee shop, bank, pharmacy, etc. — has dog treats. Luckily for her, for the most part, they do.)
Awe it sounds like you love your dog so much… aren’t they amazing?
Needed this blog so much today!
Thank you!
Susie- that makes me smile 🙂
I love this gift phrase…- “Reset, reset, reset. I feel my feet on the ground. ”
Merrier Christmas!!???
