Work Less, Achieve More. You will be Happier and More Abundant
You may have a belief floating around that says, “The harder I work, the more successful I am.” So you work harder and harder, get burned out, and then get frustrated when you don’t feel happier and more abundant. What’s wrong with hard work? Nothing. If you believe hard work gets you the success you are looking for, that is true for you. However, you can work less, achieve more, and be happier and more abundant. What if you had a belief that your success was not related to the hours and hours you put in? What if you could design your hours, days, weeks, and months to do the work and play you want? I love work. I think of it as part of my playtime, so I am a fan of doing the work, but I approach it in an intentional and impactful way. I ask how I can be more productive, efficient, and have more fun. I also take at least six vacations a year. This year, I set the intention for 12 vacations (or 12 weeks), plus lots of long weekends. What sounds relaxing, fulfilling, and fun to you?
You can design your own “work less, achieve more, be happier and abundant” lifestyle. This looks different for each person. What’s important to me might not be important to you. The exciting part is that you are in charge of this process. Let’s blow up the hustle paradigm.
The Steps
•Goals- why they sometimes don’t work and how to fix that.
•Why time management doesn’t work and what to do instead.
•Finding your excitement and enthusiasm.
•Figure out the desired monthly cash flow
•Break the rules you have set for yourself.
•Check your money beliefs.
•Avoid lazy default thinking.
•Do only what matters. Take care of yourself.
Goals: Why They Sometimes Don’t Work and How to Fix That
Some goals are too vague to be meaningful. Get specific and know your why. Why is this your goal? Why is it meaningful to you? Create a mix of personal and work/business goals. Journal Prompt: What is my work supporting?
Why Time Management Doesn’t Work and What to Do Instead
It’s not about finding ways to do more or pack more into your schedule. Time is one of the most valuable things you have. Time is a gift. You are the master of your schedule and your time. Keep open blocks in your schedule for doing whatever you want. Be strategic about planning your work. It’s not about time management. It’s about doing what is most important to you. I love the freedom of schedule.
Finding Your Excitement and Enthusiasm
You will do the thing when you find your zest for life, excitement, and enthusiasm. Sometimes, you wake up with enthusiasm, and sometimes, you have to encourage your enthusiasm. Learn what lights your fire. Choose enthusiasm. Ask, How can I unlock and amplify my excitement?
Figure Out Your Desired Monthly Cash Flow
Often, the idea of a monthly budget triggers stress. Choose to see your monthly cash flow differently. Set your monthly money goals based on the lifestyle you want to live. Add up your bills. Add up your lifestyle desires. Add 30% on top of the total. Then you will know why this is your number instead of a random number that sounds good.
Break the Rules and Limiting Beliefs You Have Set for Yourself
Question those beliefs and rules. Break society’s norms. Create new rules and norms. Be a renegade in your own way. Be a unicorn. You can choose the paradigm (the story, the worldview). One of my colleagues, Nina Manolson, has done this with her Body Peace Movement. You can listen to the interview here.
Check Your Money Beliefs
You aren’t working for money itself- but for what money does. And it can be easy. Move away from trading dollars for hours. Your wealth does not depend on your exertion.
Avoid Lazy Default Thinking
When you have a limiting thought, challenge it instead of just believing it. Why do I think this way? What would feel better?
Do Only What Matters. Take Care of Yourself
Let go of endless to-do lists. Delegate, delete, or move to the back burner and only do what is important to you. Include self-care (you are worthy and important).
