Holiday Spirit and Traditions Day 8 of 12 Days of Holiday Joy (scroll down to find out how to participate).
Holidays in Parker, CO are spectacular. Our downtown area is decorated with Christmas lights and a park to enjoy. It’s easy to take my beautiful town for granted. For a few nights, I thought about going with my daughter Sonja and her dog to walk around the downtown area and take in the scenery. But, I have been so busy. Then, I decided that I needed the moment and I needed the freedom of just wandering around with no agenda.
We bundled up in our winter gear and packed the dog in the car and headed over. The second we parked, I knew it was going to be a magical evening. People were walking around with their kiddos and their dogs, but not too many people. The bar across the street had an outdoor live band. Santa was sitting in front of Santa’s workshop. Christmas lights lit up the night.
Tent’s were up for outdoor dining. A feeling of both excitement and peace filled the air. All of my muscles relaxed. My to-do lists disappeared and I was in the moment. Our dog Lady, was behaving and loving the moment, too.
We walked and talked for an hour. I felt the wonder of childhood and the magic and spirit of Christmas.
I am so happy we made the time to appreciate our town’s traditional holiday display and to just wander around.
As I was talking to a friend about this experience, I started thinking about last Christmas when we missed our church service because half our people arrived later. Instead, I said I wanted to sing Silent Night together with the lights off and candles lit. We all sang together which turned into an hour of singing together. It was beautiful. This year, many families are doing smaller Christmas or Zoom Christmas and it can be just as magical because what matters are the people, the spirit of the Holidays, and your willingness to merge tradition with the unexptected.
“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”
Charles Dickens

Puppy pictures!! And holiday lights. So pretty. We’re having a blizzard here today, but, since there’s no need to travel anywhere this year, it’s just a cozy day to hunker down, play some games, watch Christmas movies and eat the cookies we baked last weekend.
What a beautiful display of Christmas!!!
” I needed the moment and I needed the freedom of just wandering around with no agenda” …. I believe this is a New Years resolution needing to be made!!?❤
