3 Ways to Grow Your Self-Esteem and Stop Sabotaging Yourself

Your own self-belief affects everything in your life. Your positive self-belief creates success, prosperity, happiness, and abundance: a negative self-belief gets in the way of all the good in your life. You may have heard the saying- “I am my own worst enemy”. This is what happens with negative self-beliefs. You will sabotage your own good efforts and your goals.

“Low self-esteem is like driving through life with your hand-break on.” Maxwell Maltz

Have you ever backed off just when you were tasting success? Have you ever found yourself compulsively saying things to hurt your success in a sales conversation or interview? Have you missed deadlines? Do you show up late for your most important meetings?  All of these are forms of self-sabotage. This sabotage happens when you don’t believe you deserve success or feel like you are somehow not worthy. You end up resetting yourself back to a limit. For instance, many people keep resetting to a certain level of income. A person might make more money, but then in a matter of months will reset back to a more “comfortable” level. Wouldn’t you love to stop sabotaging yourself?

Building your positive self-belief will help you stop sabotaging yourself. As you believe more strongly in your capacity to succeed, your capabilities, your talents, and your value in being a human being here on this Earth, your outcomes will change.  The good news is that you can increase your self-esteem and self-belief through daily practice.

Begin your exploration and implementation of positive self-belief by first seeing how you fit in with the universe. You are a powerful, spiritual being with a physical presence in this world. Your own creative force is powerful. Realize how powerfully you are connected to others. You matter, you are significant. Take charge of your mindset.

Use the affirmations (or create your own):

  • “I accept myself”
  • “I believe that I can accomplish my dreams”
  • “I believe in my ability to take action”
  • “I believe I can create a powerful and positive mindset”.
  • “I appreciate myself.”

Second, take inspired action steps. Taking even one small action, sticking with it, and achieving something builds confidence. When you take action, you keep a promise to yourself. The more you keep your promises, the better you feel.

After you begin building a track record of small actions, take bigger action steps that make you stretch a little. Don’t worry about the results, focus on the action. Celebrate the action. When you take action, the results do, eventually, come. Yes, results are important. Everyone loves a positive result, but if you devote all your journey to worrying about the results, you have lost the moment. Do your inspired action steps.

Finally, make a bigger impact. Decide how you want to make a bigger difference with your business or your career. How does the work you do make life better for your clients, co-workers, customers, and other people? Deciding has a different energy than the energy of merely thinking about something. When you say, “I decide”.  You know something is happening. Saying I decided to go to this movie at 7 pm is a different energy than saying, “I think I’ll go to a movie.”  Decide and write down your bigger impact goals.

I have a client that I call the millionaire maker. She has, over her 30-year career, made probably thousands of people millions of dollars. She creates an impact by making sure that people have money to retire comfortably and that their money will last. Think of her impact on each person and their families.  Understand that you, too, have a ripple effect with the work that you do. Your work matters. The world is better off by having you in it, doing your thing.

Reinforcing your self-esteem leads to more confidence, more success, and more impact. If you would like to take a deeper dive, read Brene Brown’s book (affiliate) Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead

    1. Thank you so much Imen. I love being an entreprenuer. Been doing it for ten years and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Best wishes on your journey.
