How are those goals going?
If you have stepped off the path or lost focus, guess what? You are not alone. When you set goals, you have passion and commitment in the beginning and this energy keeps you working on them.
But then life gets in the way. You get a cold. You have family mini emergencies and sometimes major ones. Sometimes you just get distracted. You wake up one morning and realize that you have lost sight of your goals and the momentum that was helping you cruise along.
When you realize that you have lost your focus, getting back on track as quickly as possible will help you build that momentum and passion again.
If you have been completely on track with your goals, congratulations. However, chances are at least one is slipping through the cracks.
Follow these guidelines to refocus:
First, forgive yourself. It’s disappointing when you realize that you are not making the progress that you want. Detours are okay. Sometimes detours teach us important lessons. Take a few minutes and write in your journal how you have grown and what you learned about yourself from getting off track.
Next, take care of your energy. Wake up early and engage in a daily success ritual, This will help you get back on track. In fact, your loss of momentum may have stemmed from a disruption in your daily success routine. Did you stop journaling? Did you stop exercising in the morning? Review your morning routine and make any changes. What is a success ritual? Whatever works for you. Including actions that stimulate your mental, physical, and spiritual aspects will create the biggest boost. For example, my routine right now is coffee with coconut oil, vitamins, essential oils, candles, prayer, a ten-minute exercise routine, reading something inspirational, and writing in my journal. This takes between 45 minutes and an hour, but then I am ready for anything.
Review all your goals. Review your vision board. How can you make a difference today? If your goal is to get out of debt, pay extra on your debt today even if it is just $10. Then decide that you will never make the minimum payment on any debt again. If your goal is to create more cash flow, look at where you are leaving money on the table. Are you behind on invoicing? Have you followed up with people? If you work for someone, have you maximized your bonus/raise/401k potential? For each goal, think action. Look at action steps that make the most difference. If you have a service business, this means any action that brings in clients. If you sell products, this means actions that help you make a sale. Get out of the habit of only planning. Yes, planning is important, but action brings the results.
Understand that you are more than your emotions. It is normal to wake up and not feel motivated some days. Sky high motivation is not sustainable. The real success comes when you act even when you just don’t feel like doing anything. Of course, inspired action is the most fun, but there will be days when you act when you would rather goof around. You also can use tools to help turn around your emotions. Tapping is one of my favorites. Here is a tapping audio from my podcast on How to Stop Self Sabotage. Don’t let frustration or overwhelm fester. Decide to shift out of it.
Each day that you are back on track, you build momentum. Even after day 1, you will feel better. Three days creates a huge change. A week, 21 days, 30 days- miracles start happening.
Make today the day you decide to get back on track.
