Welcome to my annual 12 Day Holiday Event on my blog. This year the featured topic is 12 Days of Joy. Experience more joy in your life every day for 12 days. Bring in more happiness, freedom and success over the next 12 days. Each day I will share ideas on how you can truly live a more joy filled life – in your personal life and your professional life. Please share your comments each day. I will be holding a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of the 12 days. Every time you comment, your name will go into the drawing. And I will also be sprinkling in some free gifts and some awesome deals on my courses and coaching.
Day 1 Bring more joy into your life by letting the past go. Do you ever wish that your parents were more loving? Or maybe do you wish you didn’t grow up in financial struggle? Or that your parents stayed together? Or that you went to the college of your choice? Or that you would have chosen a different mate? Or that you would have made different decisions in your career and life? and so on…
Anytime, you say the words, “I wish” or “Could have” or “Would have” or “Should have”, you allow something other than the present moment to control you.
“The past has no power over the present moment.”
Eckhart Tolle.
I love this quote. Your life is what you make it right now. It’s a moment by moment choice. Every person has a choice to make – stay stuck in the past and blame the past or take responsibility and make your moment right now, a great one.
Most people have something painful in the past, but making a decision to let it go and make a difference now, is a pivotal point in your journey. Letting the past go allows freedom to rush in and often you will also feel a rush of love in your heart for yourself and others.
Letting go of the past will bring more joy to your holiday celebrations. As the anger of past hurts melts away, you are free to truly celebrate and be present with each other. If nothing else happened, but you merely let go of the past and chose to live today as best you can, you have probably taken the biggest step you can take in your life.
Holding a grudge or any other bad feeling is a happiness and prosperity blocker. If you want more business, better opportunities, a better job,and more, decide right now to let go of the past. If someone said to you, “You can have everything you want in life, if you just let go of your stories about the past.” Would you be willing? Absolutely.
You probably find it easy to see it when someone else is stuck in the past, but it is harder to see it in yourself. Take a quick pulse check on your own life. When you think about your goals, why haven’t you accomplished them yet? Notice the reasons you give. This will give you clues to the hold your past may have on you. If you say, “I am not good with money because no one taught me” or “My business partner cheated me” or “my spouse cheated on me”, “my parents were crazy,” etc… you will start to see a pattern. If you assign reasons (excuses) other than you haven’t done it yet, you are hanging on to a past story.
When I nearly died this past summer, I learned to let go of the story of illness. I needed to see myself as well and had to stop focusing on the scary experience of ICU. I taught myself to define myself in a way that transcended the serious health condition that I faced. I remember saying, “I am more than what it says on these pieces of paper” when I left the hospital with hundreds of pages of diagnosis. How did I want to live my life? I wanted to live in this moment. I wanted to live and life fully, with joy and happiness.
Recently, my family attended the Denver Zoo Lights Event. We walked around for an hour and half in a magical world of lights and animals. Just the fact that I walked with everyone a mere five months after my hospitalization is a miracle. My hubby (of over 20 years) and I shared a smooch in the pic below:

Thank you for sharing. Many blessings, Sheri
Hi Sheri, this past year I learnt to let go of decisions I made that didn’t support my journey of personal growth and I kept blaming myself and other people. Just a few months ago I accepted the truth and released the guilt and moved on. My new story is to relax, be patient and trust the process and hold on to the belief that I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I love the verse at the end and what a journey!
So timely for me. I was wondering if you were going to do this again this year. So generous of you. I am letting go of all past hurts & healing damage. I catch myself now & have began to stop making excuses for what didn’t happen for me in my life. Thank you so much for your generous guidance Sheri!!!
Love you Jenn
You are quite right -letting go of the past is crucial for lasting peace and happiness. I choose to use the story of my traumatic past as a way to help others move forward and build a happy new life.
Thanks to you, Sheri, I am letting go of my old (lack of money) story and writing a brand new chapter of wealth and abundance, which has a much happier ending!
I love your new chapter 🙂
Hi Sheri, I really needed this. I noticed lately how certain situations I find myself in that resembles things or feeling from the past affect my current decisions and actions. It makes you want to quit and give up because you are afraid of repeating that past experience. Realizing I need to let go of the past so I don’t make decision based on my emotions but by faith believing that the end results can be great and most of all what I really want. Thank you and Happy New Year!
So much wisdom in your comments. I am picturing you letting it all go.
