What Makes the Holidays Special? 12 Days of Christmas Blog Event

Happy 12 days of Christmas! Welcome to this year’s holiday blogging event.  It’s that time of year on my blog where I post every day for 12 days with inspiration, motivation, blessings, and strategies for you as you live each day of your amazing life and as you create your own unique path to success. Each day, I will also include a special offer, a freebie, or a quick audio to lift your spirits and inspire you.

Please join my free facebook group and comment on each day’s blog.

The rules for the drawing: You can comment on the facebook group and/or the blog. Every time you comment or share the day’s blog on social media your name will go into a drawing for a $75 Amazon gift card (up to ten entries per person per day). The drawing will be held after the 12-day event is over on Dec 23. In order to keep track of social media shares, please post in the facebook group where and how many comments/shares you have each day.

Day 1

As you put the final touches on your holiday plans, wrap gifts, attend social gatherings, attend meaningful ceremonies and more, you might feel less than blessed and happy.

My daughter Monikka dreads shopping, she loves giving, but soon becomes overwhelmed in stores. We talked about a strategy of choosing one store that works for everyone or buying online.

Perhaps your stress comes from trying to find that perfect gift or create that perfect moment.

When I recently asked my kids what was so special for them during this time of year, no one said gifts. It wasn’t even on the radar. Sure, everyone loves gifts, but it is only part of this wonderful time of year.

Bonnie Gortler, a friend, client, and colleague loves writing cards and being with family and friends. Bonnie celebrates Hanukkah.  As a recipient of her cards, I can attest that she puts a lot of time, thought, and love into the message.  I love receiving her card each year. I look forward to it.

My friend and colleague, Crystal Lynn, shares, “I enjoy the expression of love in the form of excitement. Joy and giving! That’s what I love about Christmas.”

My daughter Monikka declared that she loves Christmas because, on this one day, everyone seems so happy.

Cassie, my oldest daughter,  said, “The most special thing about Christmas is the happy spirit it brings out in almost everyone. It’s a time when we put loved ones first and try to pay it forward. It brings out this faith in us that it’s a great time to be alive and makes us so fortunate to have a family. Christmas is special because it’s a time of togetherness.”

Sonja, the youngest daughter and author of the new blog simplysonja.org said, “Spending time together and being able to share our love and blessings with each other.”

Chris, the oldest son and least talkative told me that he loves being with family. Nick, the youngest, loves giving and spending Christmas morning with family.  Jeff, our middle son, loves the culture and atmosphere of Christmas. He remembers going to the 7th floor of Macy’s in downtown Minneapolis with his mom.

Yes, if you were counting, that is six children, three children, and three step-children.

My husband’s favorite part of the holidays is singing Christmas songs in church on Christmas Eve.

Not one mentioned gifts, though each probably has a story about a special gift like the year Sonja got her first pair of Uggs or when Nick received his PS4.  My kids are almost all grown up. My youngest is 17. I love that when they talk about Christmas memories, they mention the breakfast burritos we make on Christmas morning, Church on Christmas Eve, singing silent night during the candlelight ceremony and other family traditions.

One year, when I was in my twenties, my grandma died earlier in the year and also a significant relationship ended in my life. I didn’t feel much like Christmas so I decided to spend Christmas Eve by myself, then a new friend invited me to his family’s celebration. At first, I said no. I didn’t want to intrude. I am thankful I changed my mind because we will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in about 6 weeks.

  1. How lovely to read your blog post, Sheri and I am looking forward to participating in this 12 Days of Christmas event! I am not sure where best to comment, so I will copy and share my comments to the Facebook group as well.

We have had snow here in many parts of the UK, but down here in West Sussex the snow hasn’t settled as it is too wet! Over the weekend we had some very stormy weather and parts of the roofing felt blew off my studio. I was very grateful to my boyfriend for braving the rain and wind, clambering up there and patching up the gaps. Yesterday we bought and decorated our Christmas tree and I made some mince pies. Today I am concentrating on making handmade Christmas cards for my stall at the Christmas Event organised by and for some of my lovely Athena networking group members. I am listening to favourite Christmas music and getting into a festive frame of mind!

Have a lovely day and “see” you tomorrow…. Vivienne xx

  2. A part of the holidays I love is quiet moments spent reading Christmas-themed books near candles or Christmas tree lights while sipping hot tea or cocoa and nibbling on Christmas cookies.

  3. I love the cool in the air. The wind and the decorations and lights. It also seems like everyone is in a better mood. Even my dad who we call Grinch. He has a Grinch shirt but loves to grill dinner on Christmas.
