It’s Day 6 for Small Biz Christmas
You’ve been in the “zone” before and maybe you are there right now. You might also call this place- being in “flow”. You know what the zone or flow feels like. Your life is humming along, you feel focused and positive. Any obstacle just feels like a little blip, you feel confident and secure. You are moving forward and you know it.
From that zone place, your best ideas flow and life feels happy and even easy. You perform at a high level, but it doesn’t feel like work.
Then, you might feel that you are suddenly out of the zone. Maybe you found out that your insurance premiums increased and coverage decreased. You begin to worry. It becomes a symbol of something you can’t control. You might even have some fear about being able to provide for your needs or the needs of your family. It doesn’t really matter what the stimulus is, it could be anything that creates a “rude awakening”.
You notice that instead of being in the zone, you have become distracted. Things feel hard again. But you loved being in the zone, and you want to be back in that awesome place.
Here are a few steps that will help you get back to zone/flow.
1. Recognize that you have stepped away from the zone.
2. Be aware that you want to be in the zone.
3. Notice that you are feeding worry and fear.
4. Take a minute or so to focus on everything that is working right now in your life.
5. Take a minute or so to focus on changing the story around what is going on right now (e.g. “I have the power to choose, I can shop around and find a better deal or I can pay the increase or I can look for another alternative. I can become an activist for better insurance opportunities. It’s my choice.”
6. Take a minute to notice the positives in your current dilemma. (e.g. I am thankful that I have the opportunity to have insurance which ultimately protects me.)
7. Return your focus to your big picture goals. What inspired action steps will you take today to bring those goals into reality?
8. This return to focus, allows you to step back into the zone.
Instead of going in and out of the zone frequently, you can practice staying in the zone for longer periods of time. You are more likely to stay in the zone, if you notice distractions and stress early and deal with it early.
