12 Days of Christmas Life and Biz Strategies Day 10 Healing

Today’s Topic: Healing

Last year at Christmas time, I was only a few months past my near death experience. I was so thankful to be alive and to be able to walk around the malls, walk up and down stairs and to feel like me, and even to feel like a better version of me. Now that I have been healed for over a year, I still feel so thankful that I was given more time. I am so thankful that I have more time with my husband, kids, friends, family, and my community.

When I look back at my journey from the time the ambulance picked me up from our hotel, when I was blue and unconscious and then fast forward to today, other than a few medications that I am still taking, I am very healthy.  In the summer of 2015, I was diagnosed with a condition and not given much hope. I found myself, after researching and doing my due diligence, realizing I needed a miracle.

Fortunately, I have been teaching about the power of thought and the power of prayer for over a decade and studying it for almost all of my adult life. I decided that I would turn my thoughts to focus on healing and away from fear. Instead of focusing on how unfair it was to have a cold virus attack the lining of my heart and cause it to fail, I chose to focus on healing thoughts. I prayed throughout the day. I created affirmations. I rested when I needed rest.

I surrounded myself with loving people and read positive, loving, happy books. I was at peace with whatever happened. I determined that I would do my entire bucket list, and in a very vulnerable moment,  I told my husband that if I died, he couldn’t marry anyone else. He said, “you are not going to die.”  I said, “You know what, you are right.”  and I was back on track with my thoughts of healing.

Within a few weeks, I experienced dramatic improvement, my heart had returned to a normal level of functioning instead of functioning at less than 20%. I was ecstatic. I had my miracle. I continue to look at each day as a miracle. Each extra moment. I am here for a reason. I have things to do, people to reach. I returned to my life and business coaching practice one month after I left ICU.

My hope is that you are inspired today to realize that you have power over your thoughts and actions. So much healing takes place with your mindset and how you think about your situation. Even if something seems final, keep affirming courage and strength.

You could have a positive mindset and not have a healing miracle, but a positive mindset won’t hurt you. And no matter how much time any of us have on this planet, I think we all want to make the most of every moment.

If you were told you had maybe one to five years to live, what would you do differently?

Sending a prayer out for everyone who wants and needs healing right now. Sending you happy, healing vibes.

  1. I don’t even want to think of someone telling me that I only have a year to live. I was very ill when I was in my first year of grad school. Suddenly I got viral meningitis. No one knew what was wrong for 2 weeks. Finally, I couldn’t get out of bed and my friend in the apartment across the hall took me to the health clinic then to the hospital after a spinal tap confirmed the diagnosis. My brain was not the same. They told my parents I may have brain damage. I have ALWAYS been a very positive person. I knew I was healthy. I had NEVER been sick. I knew in every part of my mind and body that I was well – even if I could not physically get out of bed or talk. I healed in a month and finished my Masters’ degree. I then went on to get a Ph.D and I hope I am not brain damaged. 🙂 Sometimes, when horrible things happen we have to come back even stronger!

    1. Lori, first of all, I am so happy you are still here and thriving! The resolve about health is important. When I was so sick, I was shocked because I have always told people I knew I was living until 120 years old. I am thankful about my ordeal though, because I felt like even though I too have been positive for most of my life, my thinking seemed to get sharper, colors were brighter- I saw more clearly after a dramatic shock. Another big change was that nothing small bugged me. I have been good at that most of my life, but I became even better at it. My question I ask, “Is this really important?” or I will say to myself, “this isn’t a big deal.” Truth is most things aren’t a big deal.

  2. I have come to the conclusion being forgiving relieves a lot of stress. I found being forgiving of my former boss has helped and created our relationship to become closer friends then what there was working with him. It has created a closer relationship with him and his family, that wasn’t there before.

  3. Hi Sheri
I’m so thankful you have healed your heart—
I love “you have power over your thoughts and actions. So much healing takes place with your mindset and how you think about your situation. Even if something seems final, keep affirming courage and strength. — Thank you.
    Bonnie.
